Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA) Supervisor

Status: Full Time / Part Time

Reports To: Clinical Director

Summary/Objective:

The BCBA Supervisor works with the Clinical Director to support a team of applied behavior analysis (ABA) providers design, implement and evaluate a range of ABA clinical services for children and adolescents with autism, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related disorders. The BCBA Supervisor is responsible for collaborating with the Team Lead to continually monitor, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of the ABA program. The BCBA Supervisor is required to adhere to and promote adherence to the Behavior Analytic Certification Board (BACB)’s Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts® as well as all regulatory and statutory rules of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of the Professions. The BCBA Supervisor maintains a weekly caseload of service hours as dictated by their clinical caseload and directed by the Clinical Director.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide ABA therapy in individual and group settings.

    • Full time provider: 20-25 hours of direct service, 10-15 hours indirect hours

  • Treatment planning is limited to 20% of total direct service hours and is split between team lead and the supervising BCBA.

  • Schedule and conduct monthly team meetings with family, supervisor and ABA team (1 hour/month).

  • Schedule and attend monthly team lead meetings (1 hour/month) with Team Lead.

  • Conduct assessments for each client at least every 6 months.

    • Conduct a Vineland assessment.

    • Conduct any appropriate standardized assessments (e.g., ADOS, ABLLS, AFLS, VB MAPP, etc.) and/or a functional behavior assessment (FBA).

    • Collect ABC data for behavior targeted for reduction.

    • Identify hypothesized functions for behavior targeted for reduction.

  • Complete a treatment plan for each client at least every 6 months.

  • Communicate with insurance companies to acquire authorization for treatment.

    • Schedule and complete a clinical review with insurance companies upon payor request.

  • Design ABA programs and behavior intervention plan(s) (BIP) that align with the most current assessments and treatment plan.

    • Create appropriate data sheets.

    • Complete interobserver agreement (IOA) at the onset of each program. 

    • Identify replacement behavior for behavior targeted for reduction.

  • Continually evaluate data and make regular data driven updates to the ABA programs and BIPs within one-week of need.

  • Supervise the implementation of ABA programs and BIPs by direct service providers for at least 10% of the direct service hours provided per week.

    • Collect data on direct service providers’ performance and adherence to processes.

    • Complete a Supervision Form one time per month for each direct service provider on a case.

    • Utilize behavior skills training (BST) to train direct service providers.

    • Lead  direct service provider meetings as needed. 

  • Provide family training at least once per month.

    • Establish quantifiable goals. 

    • Utilize BST to support skill development.

    • Provide written feedback after each meeting.

  • Complete a Discharge Report when services are terminated.

    • Deliver the  discharge report within two weeks of discharge.

    • Conduct a follow up call within two months of discharge.

  • Coordinate with the Clinical Director and provide other services within the BCBA role as needed. 

  • Work with the Clinical Director, the Director of Client Advocacy and the Director of Family Training on projects to further the mission of AT-LBA. 

  • Participate in Professional Development.

    • Attend the monthly staff forum.

  • Interact with co-workers in a professional and productive manner.

    • Focus on objective observations, identification of issues, and positive actions to take to resolve those issues.

    • Maintain professional and respectful boundaries in conversations.

    • Follow complaint policies when necessary. 

  • Adhere to the mission, vision, and values of AT-LBA.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A masters degree completed in ABA or a related field

  • BCBA Certification from the BACB® 

  • LBA license or a limited permit from NYSED 

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of ABA technology.

  • A minimum of two years of experience working within the field of ABA.

  • A minimum of one year of experience supervising direct service providers.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position may be a full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours will fluctuate based on workload and client availability.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.

  • Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter and observing students.

  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal speech levels, in the English language.

  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.

  • Ability to navigate teleconferencing technology

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Moderate to high stress levels.

  • Work fluctuates between your home office and the client’s home and/or school environment

  • Regular contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel.

  • Hazards: Incumbent may be exposed to contact with individuals displaying physically aggressive or self-injurious behavior.

Travel

This position may require travel between the incumbent’s home, the AT-LBA office and/or the client’s school and/or home. Travel may occur within the 5 boroughs of New York City, Westchester County, The Hudson Valley and/or Long Island.
